Kai Po Che- Brothers for Life My Take

Like me those who have read Chetan Bhagat’s  "Three Mistakes of My Life” know very wel that the book is a simple story of three friends and how three different events change their lives forever, It caught the imagination of youth because of Indianness of the writing style, locations, young language and fluid narrative (including a detailed love angel)….there is no extra high drama or  high voltage friction etc… so to expect something like that in a Film "Kai Po Che"  will be sure  to disappoint viewers.
Instead if  one can co relate the book with the happenings on screen and appreciate how the same has been suitably altered n modified  for good by Rock On fame director Abhishek Kapoor then the chances of one liking and even enjoying this (highly over praised by critics) film are manifold….
There are many many pluses in the movie to offset potential lack of drama…
Movies depicting Male Bonding/Friendships are  are En Vogue n sure shot success formula but  what possibly separates this one from say Dil Chahta Hai or “Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara”,Rang de Basanti, Rock On etc etc is the setting and back drop…amazing cinematography by Anay Goswami  who has shown a totally different Amdavad and Diu  …The attention to detail, great camera movements heighten the feel of the movie, same for songs and background score(again lifting the movie and deepening the effect of narrative especially during climax showing riot scenes)
Manza, Meethi Boliyan and Shehnai are extremely melodious and different…Kudos to Amit Trivedi and Swanand Kirkire…

Abhishek Kapoor has surely come of age in the movie…He first altered the story and re-wrote the screenplay along with author, toned down the love angle and riots , changed the end.. This may have reduced the drama but I think his goal was to concentrate on the three protagonists of the movie and he succeeds hands down in the objective..The “Taken for Granted” attitude of friendship, Living each others Dreams and working to fulfill those, sharing everything, the warmth and bond of friendship even in duress etc etc are highlights

Sushant Singh Rajput is THE FIND of the movie…He fits the role like Hand n Glove. His depiction of hot headed passionate cricket lover and mentor grows on you. A sheepish smile from him after a mistake surley erases all the anger that he causes in others….A perfect debut role portrayed fantastically…

Same goes for Raj Kumar Yadav …An ambitious, shy, serious looking, go getter who wants to make it Big in life ,Always calculative ,even in Love….Again perfect Casting

Amrita Purie is CUTE looking bold sister speaking Hindi  with an  accent-  Apt for the short but pivotal role

Amit Sadh is ok ok ,I liked his Mama more….

For obvious political reasons the director keeps the focus firmly on his protagonists during conflicts/riots without taking any side….The events are integral part of the narrative which changes the lives of the friends forever, happen but  they are shown through the eyes of one or the other protagonists ,there by the role of those events is  to create a backdrop for the clash between friends….

Many who have read the book may not like the end but I thought it was positive end even though a Clichéd one….

I do agree with Chetan Bhagat when he says, The movie is better than the Book and the entire credit goes to Abhishek Kapoor and his technical team….

Nowadays we are so used EXTRA in everything be it heightened emotions, melodrama , love, friendship that this normal, simple friend's story may feel bland....but its welcome change!

Must watch movie….Simple Soft Brothers for Life Movie with very good technical aspects...

*** from me.
